In Match, Ireland’s deserted national stadium provides an epic spatial arena and a charged cultural context for a male-to-male encounter exploring combat and competitiveness, with moments of tenderness and physical intimacy ultimately transcended by the will to win.

Fearghus Ó Conchúir completed degrees in English and European Literature at Magdalen College Oxford, before training at London Contemporary Dance School. He danced with Adventures in Motion Pictures and Arc Dance Company.  Work for theatres includes Vespers (2001) Tearmann (2003), Sulán (2003), An dá thrá (2004) , Cosán Dearg (2005,  Match (2006) and Dialogue (2008), created in collaboration with Chinese artists Xiao Ke and Yin Yi.  As 2007/2008 Artist in Residence for Dublin City Council, he developed work that investigates the relationship between bodies and buildings, particularly in the context of urban regeneration.  From this process, he created a film Three+1  and  a new production Niche. You can view some of the work created to date in Dublin, Shanghai and Beijing at www.bodiesandbuildings.blogspot.com. Ongoing collaborations include a public art commission, together with Dan Dubowitz, for Fingal County Council, that imaginatively reconnects the neglected Martello Towers of the county’s coastline. Fearghus was the first Ireland Fellow on the Clore Leadership Programme and is a board member of Dance Ireland, of Project Arts Centre and of Create.
